Monkfish Cataplana (Tamboril)

Ingredients for 4 portions:

    500 g monkfish (Tamboril) can be TK

  • 300 g crab
  • 0.5 Pcs paprika red, in stripes
  • 0.5 pcs paprika green, in stripes
  • 5 pcs potato
  • 400 g sliced tomato
  • 2 pcs onion cut into rings
  • 3 pcs garlic clove finely chopped
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • some coriander fresh, for garnish
  • some olive oil
  • some white wine
  • some salt coarse
  • some Piri Piri



  1. Provide all the ingredients. Wash, clean and cut the vegetables as indicated above. If you don’t have cataplana, you can also take a stew. (And don’t forget to order a Cataplana ! ) First, add a good shot of olive oil to the cataplana, followed by a layer of onions and potatoes. Then add the garlic, followed by the fish, which you season carefully with salt and chilli.
  2. Then spread the tomatoes, crabs and pepper strips. Finally, pour the crushed coriander seeds over it and pour it all over again with a little olive oil and white wine.
  3. Close the cataplana and let everything simmer at low temperatures for about 45 minutes.
  4. Serve fresh white bread. Cut some coriander green. Serve the dish in the cataplana and pre-serve the chopped coriander green over it. A glass of white wine is a perfect match for this.
